I've heard from more than one source that New Holland does not make the 7308 FEL themselves, but that it's made for them by some other company. Does anybody know who makes it?

"Take the weight of the entire loader assembly plus the weight of the contents of the bucket and put that weight on the rear of the tractor as counter balance or ballast."

Wow! According to the brochure, the 7308 weighs 839 lbs and is rated to lift 875 lbs. That's a total of 1714 lbs of weight to be added to the rear! Wheel weights are 300 lbs. I'm guessing fluid would be another 500 lbs. So, I'd still need to add another 900 lbs to the 3pt. Do you folks really put that much weight on you tractors?

You wrote CT33D and I assume you meant TC33D. I have a TC29D, which is the same as the TC33D but a few less HP. Same frame, size, and weight. I have a tilt meter on my tractor. I mow sideways on a 20 degree hill all the time and have been sideways on a 25 degree hill with no problems. I have a 30 degree hill that I do not try to mow sideways on, I go straight up and down. If I had weight on the tires (either fluid or wheel weights), I might try it, but have never tried it.

The thing that fools people sometimes is that on a riding lawn mower, you're not up very high, so a side slope doesn't feel too bad. When you get up on a CUT, it feels like a lot more. Whatever you do, make sure you have the ROPS up and your seat belt on! The thing you have to watch out for is if you go too fast and hit a bump or start to slide sideways and then hit a stump or rock, then it will be much more likely to flip over.

Sorry about taking so long to get back on this. I ended up adding 1/32" orifices to both hoses and now it works great. I ordered the 1/2" pipe thread restrictors from Royal Brass in Illinois for total of $11 for both including shipping. They have a web site and their headquarters are in Knoxville, TN. The web site, http://www.royalbrassandhose.com, which has a list of dealers.

The part number is 8MP-8FPXR and it's called a "Restricted pipe SWVL". It doesn't swivel though, once it's tightened down it's rigid. The SWVL means they will swivel while installing, but once they're tight they are rigid, which is fine because the quick connect where it connects to the tractor can swivel anyway to keep the hoses from binding.

In regard to my comments earlier about the Bush Hog M246. At that time I had ordered the FEL and according the specs I felt I was getting a better FEL than the New Holland 7308. But, now the M246 is on my tractor and I regret it! The M246 is 537 lbs heavier than the 7308, which I didn't know about before, and the added weight is requiring that I add way more weight to the back of the tractor, so by the time I get done the TC29D will be much heavier than I want. Also, the M246 mounting brackets are in the way of engine maintenance, even when the FEL is detached. For example, I can't even check the oil now without opening the hood.

My advice is to get the 7308 with the tractor when you buy it. It will be cheaper in the long run.

I recently bought a post hole digger. I used it for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I used it to dig holes to plant a row of trees. It worked nice and all, but I have one gripe about my TC29D in this situation. After I dug the first hole, I pushed the clutch in to stop the digger. Then I pushed the hydro pedal to move up to the next spot, but of course nothing happened. Then I remembered reading in the manual that pushing the clutch in will disengage the drive. So, I had to disengage the PTO, and let the clutch out so the hydro drive would work, then move up to the next spot, push the clutch in, engage the PTO, dig the hole, and repeat for each hole.

Does anybody know of a source of ready made hydraulic toplinks? My existing toplink is about 18� from hole to hole when fully retracted and about 27� when fully extended. This for adding top and tilt. I have the rear remote hydraulics installed.

My lawn is also kind of rough in places. That's one of the reasons I didn't get the belly mower. Not because I was worried about tearing it up, but because the track width of the wheels are pretty far apart, since they're way out at the edges of the deck, and that would result in more problems with scalping. The Landpride pull behind has the caster wheels closer together. Plus, the Landpride has a deeper deck, which provides better mulching. Another advantage of the rear type is that it's easier to clean the underside of it since I can raise it way up. Of course, I always put jack stands under it before I go under it! However, I can see where the belly mower would be easier to operate, since there’s no swinging out on turns and you don’t have to look behind you so much. Price was another issue for me, since the belly mower was much more expensive.

Sounds like quite a scam. I paid $11.26 for the little filter. If I'd have known what was going on I would have asked for the bigger one. I'd waste the difference in gas money to go exchange it now though. Thanks for your help.

I'm at the 150 hour mark on my TC29D now. The dealer took care of the 50 hour service for free, but now I would have to pay for having them do it, so I'll do it myself. As near as I can tell from the manual, all that's required is an engine oil and filter change, clean the air filter, and clean the fuel filter.1) Oil and filter change. I guess I'll just buy the oil and filter from the dealer, escpecially since I'm still within the 2 year warranty. Is there anywhere else to get New Holland brand filters?2) Clean the air filter. I assume I can just clean it with a shop vac and blow it out with an air compressor.3) Clean the fuel filter. I hoping to just follow the steps in the manual for draining and bleeding the fuel system. Is the manual complete, or is there anything else I should know?Did I miss anything? Thanks.

I run about 12 in the rear and 10 in the front. Unless you drive on pavement or concrete a lot, the lower pressure is better for traction.

I just noticed something odd about the rear PTO lever. The lever works its way back a little, about 3/8ths of an inch, after about a half hour of use. When I first start it, I always push the clutch in, put it into gear, and then let the clutch out to start the implement and throttle up to PTO speed. When I notice the lever has moved back, I stop and idle down, push the clutch in, push the lever back up all the way, and then let the clutch back out again. I can�t help but wonder if it�s starting to work its way out of gear and is running with the force pushing on just the ends of the teeth on the gears instead of being fully engaged. Is this normal? When I was mowing yesterday it did this twice. I have not yet contacted the dealer about this because I just noticed it, but I will call them soon.<br>

I have an idea that might work, but it might not work if you back up a lot. If I remember right, the Bush Hog mowers have a pin at the top of the caster shaft that you remove to move the spacers around when adjusting the height. You could try replacing this pin with a long "eye" bolt with a nut on both sides of the caster shaft and adjust the eye bolt so it sticks out a couple of inches. Then, put a bungy cord from the eye bolt to somewhere on the mower so the tension from the bungy cord will keep the caster pointed forward. You might even be able to put the eye bolt on the front casters so it faces back and the eye bolt on the rear casters so it faces forward and then run the bungy cord from the eye bolt on the front caster to the eye bolt on the rear caster for each side. This will only work if the holes in the caster shaft are drilled parallel to the wheel, which is how it is on my LandPride mower, but I�m not sure how it is on yours. I hope this made some sense!

Thanks for your help, Kay. I'm after something that hooks to the 3pt and has caster wheels (like a 3pt rear mower) to support the debris bin. I don't like the way the trailer type units handle. If it has the ability to pick the whole thing up when it's full, that would be nice but not necessary. As for the size of the bin, I don't know, but it doesn't have to be real big. The main thing is the width of it, which I would prefer to be at lease the width of my tractor, so about 5� or 6� would be good. The size tractor it must fit is a NH TC29D which is 29 gross HP and weighs about 2500lbs including the front weights. I use it to pull a 6' finish mower that weights 650lbs and it handles it and lifts it with no problems. I want to use it to pick up the grass on a section that's about 1 acre and then use it in the fall to pick up leaves, so it would only see light use. The only sweepers I've ever seen are the trailer type for riding lawn mowers, the widest one I�ve seen is 42�. Do you know the names of any manufacturers or any web sites I could browse? Thanks.

When I was shopping for a tractor I had it narrowed down to JD and NH also. I ended up with the NH for 2 reasons. 1) That green paint is expensive! The JD had less for more $. 2) The NH dealer was much much better to deal with. The JD dealer acted like he didn't care if I bought a tractor from him or not.

It seems to me $1000 per HP is pretty expensive.

I have a few questions for those of you who own a Mid Mount Mower (MMM) for a TC series. Is New Holland the only brand of MMM available for these tractors? When it's mounted, does it leave the 3ph, rear PTO, etc unused so I could run a 3ph implement without taking the MMM off? How does the lift work and what lever controls it? Will a TC29D require any additional hydraulics? How high does the MMM lift off the ground when it's not being used? Does the MMM get in the way and need to be removed for (try to answer with either "always", "usually", "somtimes", "never":1) Tilling?<br>2) Bush hogging?<br>3) Grader blade?<br>4) Rear slip scoop?<br>5) Front end loader?<br>6) Plow?Can you run both the MMM and a rear PTO implement at the same time? For example, could I mow grass and till at the same time? How much does a 6' MMM cost? How long does it take to take it off and put it back on?OK, so I had more than a "few" questions! When I let up on the hydro pedal, the tractor took a long time to stop, even going uphill. Hitting the brakes would not stop it either, it would just squeal the brakes. The only way to stop it was to push on the back of the pedal with my heel to get it to go into neutral. When it went in for it's 50 hour service, they told me it just wasn't broken it yet. The tractor has over 100 hours on it now and it was getting worse every week. I was reading some posts about brake steering and everyone was saying that hitting the brakes would deactivate the cruise control, but mine didn't, the tractor would just keep going until I pushed the hydro pedal back with my heel. I called the dealer and he came out and replaced the electromagnet that holds the hydro pedal in position when the cruise control is on. He said it was staying on part way sometimes. Now when I have it on cruise control and touch the brakes, the cruise control turns off and the tractor rolls to a stop without having to touch the hydro pedal. I haven't had a chance to test it thoroughly yet, but so far it seems much better. It still wants to stick a little when the tractor is not warmed up, but once it's warmed up it's much better. At least now when I'm going uphill and let off the hydro pedal, it rolls to stop within a couple of seconds, rather than taking 5 seconds to finally stop.

I'm sure a TC33 would handle all of the mowing chores. What size plow did you pull with the 8N? I pull a 2 bottom (12") plow with a TC29D and it does pretty well, even in sod. If I hit hard ground, I'll spin 3 wheels (both rears with diff lock on and 1 front), but I have industrial tires, so ag tires would probably do much better for plowing, plus I only have about 100lbs of weight on the front. The other thing to consider is whether or not you need draft control on the 3pt hitch. My TC29D does not have draft control, only position control, and I think the TC33 is the same. I don't know about the TC35. If you're going to be doing a lot of plowing, it might be a consideration.
